WORKING WITH ALUMINUM

Aluminum 6061

6061 Aluminum is the commonly used alloy, it is a heat treatable alloy.

6061 Aluminum is used in many applications such as high pressure applications truck and marine parts, furniture, general structural products, wire products.

6061 Aluminum in the harder T4 or T6 temper is easy to machine, in the softer tempers it is harder to machine

6061 Aluminum in the annealed condition is great for stamping, bending spinning, and deep drawing. It is easy to cold work, by all standard methods.

6061 Aluminum can be welded by all common welding processes. For thin sections you can use gas tungsten arc welding for best results. You should use gas metal arc welding for heavier sections. You should use 4043 alloy for filler rod.

6061 Aluminum in the "O" temper is easily cold worked, T4 and T6 are not as easily worked.
