SINGLE POINT METRIC THREADING (WARNING)

When single point threading Metric Threads on a lathe with a U. S. lead screw, DO NOT DISENGAGE THE LEAD SCREW.  If you do you will be unable to pick up the threads again.

You must stop the lathe, move the cutting tool away from the cut and reverse the feed.

Most lathes sold today with a single lead screw, have a set of gears that translate the feed so that you can cut Metric Thread, but they still use the U.S. lead screw, which will not work, when using the thread dial.
